This study analyzes the characteristics of the craft section of the Joseon arts exhibition, centered on Joseon’s local colors. As modern-day craft studies focus on Japanization, this study focused on uncovering the uniqueness that the craft section of the Joseon arts exhibition has. This paper takes a look at the operational situation of the craft section of the Joseon arts exhibition and the judges. It also views the management operation of the craft section by analyzing 527 works of art listed in the catalogue. It then classified the prize-winning work and analyzed the specially selected and needless to judge work to confirm that the two axes of the Joseon art exhibition’s craftwork are in the trend of Japanization and the trend of Joseon’s local color. The craftwork of the Joseon art exhibition unfolded differently from the Japanese empire"s art exhibition. The Japanese Government-General of Korea praised the colonialist nature of Joseon and established it as a model of “Joseon local color”. As in the fields of crafts and painting, the local colors of Joseon were different due to economic purposes but were essentially the same. This was the characteristic which distinguished the craft section of Joseon arts exhibition from the Japanese-made official exhibition craft stage.
