This study aims to develop a learning cycle model-based teacher education program for the facilitation of early childhood teachers’ mathematics activities using natural objects and to investigate changes in recognizing the of importance of mathematics activities in early childhood including the degree of implementation, pedagogical content knowledge in mathematics and mathematics teaching efficacy, mathematical attitude, and eco-friendly teaching attitude. For this study, a survey was conducted targeting 30 early childhood teachers at a daycare center in S city, and an interview was conducted targeting five early childhood teachers. Then the program was applied to 19 early childhood teachers, who teach children aged three to five years old in G gu, S city. The learning cycle model-based teacher education program was developed to improve mathematics activities using natural objects by enabling early childhood teachers to construct children’s knowledge of mathematics activities by themselves through a specific experience of mathematics activities and a repetitive learning cycle structure as applied to teaching and evaluating. It was found that there were positive changes in the recognition of the importance of children’s mathematics activities using natural objects and the degree of implementation, pedagogical content knowledge in mathematics, mathematics teaching efficacy, mathematical attitude, and eco-friendly teaching attitude. It is anticipated that this research will contribute to the revitalization of a learning cycle model-based teacher education program for early childhood teachers.
