Two volumes, The History of the Chosen Presbyterian Church published in 1928 and 1968, are precious historical sources to understand Korean Church History. These two volumes have significant values since that they were published, after long preparation over ten years, not by any individual scholar but by editorial committee appointed at the General Assembly. Especially the first volume, The History of the Chosen Presbyterian Church, having contained the organization and developments of the Presbytery and General Assembly of Korean Presbyterian Church in detail, is one of the most valuable resources to study on the early Korean presbyterian Church. Nevertheless, the writing dealing with the whole process of the two volumes from the initial step to the publication was far to seek.
The whole editorial process can be classified roughly into four stages: the first stage with George O. Engel as the editor-in-chief(1916-1922), the second stage with Rev. Duck Il Park as the editor-in-chief(1922-1925), the third stage with Rev. Jun Baek Ryang as the copy editor(1925-1928), and the last stage till the publication of second volume and working period of revision committee(1930-1968). The History of the Chosen Presbyterian Church have objectivity and source credibility due to editing mainly with official records of Church Executive Committee(당회록), Annual Reports of Presbytery, and Annual Reports of the General Assembly. However, these two volumes have many editorial errors and errors on historial data to be revised and corrected.
