The purpose of this study is to derive space planning elements for creating a user-centered community space that utilizes idle spaces in subway stations. For this, observation analysis with site visit using WELL Community certification, a space planning guideline for users’ well-being, was conducted on the case of creating a community space by utilizing idle spaces in subway stations. IWBI’s WELL Community certification is a guideline for evaluating spatial planning factors that promote user well-being in all public spaces, including residential and office spaces. Through the analysis frame applying the WELL Community, eight cases of community space in subway station that are continuously in operation in 2022 were analyzed. As a result, the Pedestrian - Scale design of Movement, Preservation of Scenic views of Mind, Social space and Community confidence of Community were generally satisfied. However, Urban Agriculture of Nourishment, Public space of Community, and Restorative Blue space of Mind was not satisfied enough. In the future, subway idle space needs to have design elements such as facade design, plant and public art in a location where users can easily see, and open layout to observe each other. In terms of space function, it is necessary to create a public space that supports social interaction such as gallery, walking trail related to psychological recovery. In addition, it was found that it is more proper to comprehensively utilize idle spaces scattered in the station rather than using only certain idle space in subway stations and to have green spaces.
