The purpose of this study is to compare the differences of the kinematic and kinetic variables between drop landing(DL) and drop jumping(DJ) during the landing phase. Landing and jumping tasks with double legs were performed by 10 male college students at heights of 0.30m and 0.60m. Motion capture system and force plates were used to obtain the kinematic and kinetic data of lower extremities. The results showed that the duration of landing phase was extended more in DL. The peak value of ground reaction force increased more as the landing height rose and in DL. But it occurred later in DL. On the other hand, angle variables such as angle at the lowest position of center of mass and range of motion significantly increased at the higher landing height and in DJ in the joints. Peak positive and negative power increased more with the landing height and in DL . Positive and negative work increased with the landing height and in DL except hip joint. Sequencing of negative work between ankle and knee joints was more clearly observed in DL than in DJ. The total amounts of negative work of the joints also increased in DL. Those mean that the strategy of energy dissipating during landing phase were enhanced further in DL. As a result, decreasing of total amounts of negative work and weakening of sequencing between joints in DJ may increase the risk of lower extremities injury compared to DL.
