The purpose of this study is to examine and compare physical education teacher education programs operated in physical education teacher education institutes in Korea and America. It is expected that this will present useful information to provide more qualitatively excellent physical education teacher education programs needed to cultivate competent physical education teachers in Korea afterwards. This research has as its subjects six colleges of education in Korea and three colleges operating reliable physical education teacher education programs as physical education teacher education institutes through purposeful random sampling. The data collected were analyzed by G. Bereday`s method to present comparative data, that is, interpretation, juxtaposition, and comparison. The results of this study are as shown below. First, the educational goals of both countries have much in common, but the faculties in the department of physical education are diffident in terms of their major. Second, in regard of physical education teacher education programs, American programs take far more of subject-matter-education than subject-content-education than Korean ones. Third, the practice of physical education (the internship) is longer in America than Korea, and there is a standard plan for the practice in America.
