Most of the urban type elderly housing facilities are isolated from the community and have no space for residents & local residents to share friendship and time. For this reason, this study focuses on the activation of community integration within urban-type elderly housing facilities and the future direction of community integration. To present of future direction for the community integration, 6 impeding factors, each 3 internal and external impeding factors, are extracted from urban-type cases and compared with the United States’ and Japan’ good cases.
The result of this study can be summarized as follows: to better enhance internal community-link: ⑴ aging in place of resident ⑵ family & inter-generational interaction ⑶ carefully planned space for community and separation of core in the facilities and to better enhance external community-link: ⑴ active opening of service facilities to the neighborhood ⑵ active use of local community facilities ⑶ planning of community space such as ‘community center’ in the facilities. The aims of community integration are to enhance an open, inter-generational, and ‘age friendly’ community, at large.
