The Jo-seon Dynasty period’s literary man Hong He-Bok translated the Ch’ing Dynasty Lee Ru-Zhen’s novel Jing-Hua-Yuan to Jae-il-Gi-yan with Korean. Although the translation of traditional literary humor has unavoidable dilemma existed, the translator do his best to make a faithful translation of the original. Above all, the academic traditions which was popular in the period of Qian-long and Jia-Qing in Ch’ing Dynasty had placed high value on graphonomy and exegetics. Due to this kind of academic traditions there were many humors about Chinese character and its pronunciation. Hong He-Bok’s translation style which disregard the target-language readers and the differences between Chinese and Korean, just only follow the original text’s expression and narration individually specified translation belief be demonstrated surly. In other words, Hong’s translation style is not close to target-language but close to original-language, and furthermore, we can see the expression and narration with Chinese character in the period of Jo-seon Dynasty still take possession of sense of sovereignty in translator’s mind.
