The main purpose of this paper is to study Korean postmodernism poetry in 1980s. I've studied Korean society in 1980s in this paper. As you know Korean people(especially Gwangju citizen) went through physical and mental hurt by some dictators in 1980.
Some postmodernism poets, Park Nam-cheol, Hwang Ji-u, Gi hyeong-do, Jang Jeong-il and Lee Seong-bok revealed Korean miserable situation in their poems. I think that their poems are very useful because they showed Korean society in 1980s. That’s why I selected these poems.
Postmodernism is against modernism and Korean society has accepted postmodernism since 1980. So Park, Hwang, Ki, Jang and Lee have shown postmodernism symptoms in their poems. Park and Hwang have shown Korean miserable situation by their deconstruction style. Gi and Jang have revealed poverty and sex in their poems and Lee and Hwang have healed people and understood the world in their poems.
I don’t think postmodernism poetry understand entirely the readers who don't know Korean situation in 1980s. But I am sure that one who has read the poems like this understands Korean people and society in 1980s better than the other who hasn't. And the another purpose of this paper is to introduce postmodernism poetry to Korean readers because postmodernism and postmodernism poetry are general trend these days.
To the last, I hope Korean readers understand postmodernism and postmodernism poetry much better through this paper.
